BMI
Honors The Bee Gees as
Icons
at 55th Annual Pop Award
BMI staged its 55th
Annual Pop Awards on
May 15,2007 honoring
as Pop Icons.
Accepting the
awards were Barry
and
Robin Gibb, and
Yvonne Gibb,
wife of the late
Maurice Gibb.
The Bee Gees won the Grammy
Legends Award, 2/24/03thok
this
award that we're giving to
Maurice, OK?"
Barry
Gibb
and Maurice's twin
Robin were on hand to
accept the honor. Barry, the
oldest brother and the lead
singer of the group, said, "I
think this is just a little bit
harder than Robin and I imagined
it could ever be. We know he's
watching--he always watched the
Grammys (chuckles)--and I think
that the nicest thing, I think,
that could happen is, is if his
son came up and took this award
that we're giving to Maurice,
OK?"
Maurice's son Adam then took the
stage and said, "I know how much
my dad loved doing what he did,
and he would have loved being
here right now. I know he'd
wanna thank one person, and
that's my mom, because, 'cause
she was his rock."
May

the Manchester suburb they grew
up
in.
They also received doctorates in
music from the University
of Manchester and a posthumous
honour for Maurice.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame in 1997
(as a

'Commander Mo's.
Gibb loved the
sport of
paintball,
and had a team
which he called
the Royal Rat

reference to his
being named a
Commander of the
British Empire,
and to his time
at the Little
River AA group,
where the
members referred
to each other as
"river rats." He
promoted the
sport at every
opportunity, and
opened a
paintball
equipment shop,
"Commander Mo's
Paintball Shop,"
in
North Miami
Beach, Florida.
Maurice was cremated and his

and friends attended) and not
opened to the public.
